DANVILLE, INDIANA (September 23, 2009) – A group from the 2009 Leadership Hendricks County Class and The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County are teaming up to raise money and awareness for our Hendricks County Parks by presenting the first annual “Dash for the Parks”. The Dash will take place on the beautiful paths at McCloud Nature Park in North Salem, Indiana on Saturday, October 17th, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. and a 9:00 a.m. start time. Dash for the Parks is a 5K family trail walk/run and 1 mile kids “fun run” to benefit the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County and assist in their effort to improve existing park land and acquire additional land.
By Indiana Department of Natural Resources standards, Hendricks County should have 55 acres of total park land per 1,000 residents. As of today, Hendricks County is well over 6,000 acres deficient of park land. “Additional acreage would positively impact our county in the areas of health, community well being and culture as well as benefit us economically and environmentally”, said William Roche, Superintendent of Hendricks County Parks and Recreation. This severe deficiency, in addition to the profound growth our county has experienced in the past 15 years led the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to classify Hendricks County as one of 14 in ‘critical need’ of additional accessible open space to serve the needs of county residents. “We believe that preserving our county’s beauty and providing clean, safe and fun recreational opportunities should be a top priority to all Hendricks County residents, young and old”, said Amanda Jensen, executive director for the Danville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the 2009 Leadership Hendricks County group responsible for organizing the run/walk.
If you are interested in participating in this family-friendly run/walk, please go to www.hendrickscountyparks.org for the entry form and all information or call 317-718-6168. This event is proudly sponsored by Hendricks Regional Health, Hendricks Power Cooperative, Target Metabolism, The Athlete’s Foot, The Flyer Group, Banning Engineering, Citizens Bank, Eagle Ridge Civil Engineering, First National Bank, American Structurepoint, Larry E.
